Dominant Huddersfield thrashed their west yorkshire rivals Bradford City, in Jordan Wimpenny’s third game in charge. Laura Elford scored a first half hat-trick to seal the win by half time alongside goals from Lucy Sowerby and Georgia Marshall.
From the start Huddersfield demonstrated their new attacking threat, especially down the wings. Just minutes into the game Brittany Sanderson’s cross was met with a Elford header which was deflected by the keeper into the net
Elford scored her second following a fast-paced attack starting at Bethan Davies, who’s goal kick was started by a run from Kate Mallin. Her low driven cross was met by Elford to make it two.
The third goal came from the other side with Sarah Danby assisting Sowerby with a low-cross. Last year’s top scorer converted from close range to make it 3-0.
Sowerby was involved in the fourth goal as she was brought down inside a crowded box. The resulting penalty was converted by Elford to achieve her hat-trick.
The second half started as the first ended, with Town’s fifth goal coming from Elford again. The ball was knocked around the box for a while before a mistake allowed Elford to place the ball into the right.
The rest of the second half settled down with both sides having chances in front of goal. Georgia Marshall scored the sixth around the 80th minute following a corner routine seeing her have a chance from short range.
Huddersfield have now won all three of their pre-season fixtures. After the game, manager Jordan Wimpenny talked about the variety of players getting on the score sheet, describing it as a positive going forward into the new season.
