MATCH PREVIEW: First team face Liverpool Feds in friendly.

Huddersfield Town Women travel away to Liverpool Feds in a friendly.

  • Match takes place on Sunday 17th October.
  • Town look to continue winning streak.
  • Repeat of last year’s FA Cup tie.

Announced earlier this week, the first team are now in action against Liverpool Feds at Jericho Lane in a friendly. This will be a great opportunity for manager Steve Appleton to assess his tactics and maintain fitness throughout the team:

“It was important to play a game during our two week break and find the right opponents for a friendly. Liverpool Feds fit the bill perfectly, they’re the best team outside of the national premier league and will provide a really tough challenge, but it’s what we need to help us to continue playing and build on our current run of form.”

Huddersfield faced Liverpool Feds last season in the Women’s FA Cup. The 90 minutes ended with the scores tied at 1-1 meaning extra time had to be played. Another three goals were scored during this period – with Huddersfield coming out triumphant against the National League Division One North side. Kate Mallin scoring a brace.

This season Liverpool have made a great start to the campaign, only conceding one goal in eight games. At home the Feds have kept a clean sheet in every match this season, even knocking out Nottingham Forest from the League Cup in August. Coming into this game, Liverpool are in second place, just one point behind leaders Leeds United, however the Merseyside team have two games in-hand.

Appleton isn’t worried about Liverpool’s fantastic defensive stat:

“It’s not something I’ve talked about, but we had the same scenario a couple of weeks ago against Wolves. I’m confident that on current form, we’re capable of scoring in every game and there’s players in my team who are hitting form in front of goal.”

The hosts have had various goalscorers throughout the season, however Emily Douglas’ four goals makes her the top scorer coming into this game. But with their fantastic clean sheet total, goalkeeper Rachel Darbyshire is our player to watch.

However she will be tested on Sunday as Huddersfield forward Laura Elford has hit good form with four goals in her last two games. Last year’s top scorer, Elford, scored within the first 14 seconds against West Brom and will be hoping to do the same again this Sunday 17th October.

The match kicks off at 2pm on Sunday at Jericho Lane, L17 5AR. Match updates will appear on our Twitter @HTAFCWomen, with highlights expected during the week on HTWTV.
