Town Women host Manchester United u21s.
Town Women host WSL side Manchester United’s u21s at the Stafflex Arena in a mouthwatering friendly on Sunday afternoon, ahead of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Brighton & Hove Albion next weekend.
The match will be played behind closed doors and will kick off at 12pm in line with the early kick off against Brighton down South on May 16th.
Last weekend, Town travelled to Kellamergh Park to face AFC Fylde Women in a friendly, earning a hard fought 1-1 draw, and the West Yorkshire outfit will be looking to go one step better against a young Manchester United side who they have never previously come up against at home.
The two did, however, meet in pre-season of the 2018/19 campaign and played out a sensational 5-5 draw in Altrincham.
The Terriers’ last competitive game came a last month as they made it to the fifth round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, beating Derby County 3-2 at the Stafflex.
Town took the lead in the 15th minute with Derby equalising a minute later, but a star showing from hattrick heroine Laura Elford put the game out of sight. Before Derby got a late consolation.Terriers manager Jordan Wimpenny is in good spirits ahead of the much-anticipated game with Man United
“The match this Sunday will be a good game for us. They are a very good side in which we hope to build on going into the FA Cup tie against Brighton the following week and one we are looking forward to.”
Wimpenny addressed what he is trying to achieve in the pivotal knockout style football of the Cup this season, but also knows his players are well aware of the threats they will be faced with against Manchester United.
“We are now building onto that all important fixture on the 16th and so far the group have been exceptional in what we are asking of them. They are working tirelessly to be as ready as they can for the tie, knowing what test will be coming our way.
This Sunday will be another challenge for us and one we will look to add to our recent performances and finish on a high ready for the Cup. We look forward to welcoming Manchester United’s players this weekend, look forward to the threats they will pose for us as a group and we’ll try to overcome them.”
