Huddersfield Town Women’s Development Team travel to Middlesbrough as the season draws to a close. Town Women look to edge closer to the top of the table and still have games in hand on most of their rivals.
Last time out, Town Women travelled to Hull City Reserves. From the outset, the game was aggressive, with the Terriers overcoming sliding tackles and lunges. In very tough conditions, Town found themselves with a penalty kick after 20 minutes, after Zoe Laughton was fouled inside the box. Continuing in a goal scoring fashion, Town scored seven and brought the points back to West Yorkshire.
Town Devs are unbeaten in the FAWNL Reserves Northern Division, having played 11 matches, winning nine and drawing two.
Town Devs have five games in hand on Chorley who sit at the top of the league, only six points adrift from the top spot with a better goal difference. Town will be looking to continue their great league form on Sunday.
Their hosts are Middlesbrough Reserves. The North Yorkshire side have played one more game than Town and are seven points adrift of second place. Middlesbrough are currently sixth in the league and their goal difference is much lower than the Terriers.
Middlesbrough Reserves beat Hull City in their last outing. The North Yorkshire team netted twice, but Hull managed a consolation goal.
Middlesbrough will be looking to avenge the reverse fixture. Town Devs welcomed Middlesbrough in March and won 5-0. Boro will want to stop the Terriers getting closer to the top spot.
Last time Out
Last time Town played Boro, Town opened the scoring from a deflected corner. Four minutes later Gibrill-Keating scored, which is almost guaranteed these days. Laura and then Macy Ellis found the back of the net, Town Women went into the break four-nil up.
Into the second half and Macy Ellis got her second of the match, that was the end for Boro, as they had no way back into the match from there. It was another great win for the Terriers.
Players to watch
Sian Gibrill-Keating has scored in almost every game she has played so far in 2022. The only one missed out on was the County Cup semi final against Huddersfield Town Women. That is an impressive record and one she will look to continue this weekend.
We will also be keeping an eye on Macy Ellis this weekend. Having scored a brace against Middlesbrough last time out, she will be eager to do the same this weekend.
Huddersfield Town’s Devs are riding high in the table, and will want to build on the team spirit, togetherness and confidence.
