The West Midlands side have been flying since their promotion to the National League North. Of the 19 matches that Wolves have played, they have drawn 3, won 15 and lost only once. This will be a tough task for the Terriers away from home.
Last time out at the Stafflex Arena, the Terriers started well. Town were the first team to actually score against Wolves this season. Lucy Sowerby got the Terriers off to a fine start, netting within the first 2 minutes of the game.
The visitors equalised just past the half hour, and struck again 4 minutes later. Britt Sanderson brought Town level just on the stroke of half time. The Terriers tried to hold on in the second half to take a point, but Wolves scored the winner to continue their unbeaten run.
Town will want to get another three points on the board, and claim a second win on the bounce. Having lost to Derby County away from home, Town Women then beat West Brom at home. However, with the form Wolves are in going into this match it will be a tough ask. Top of the league Wolves are favourites for this match, with their strong performances, and only being defeated once so far this season.
The fixture is the postponed clash from early February. With both teams looking for the win, it will be a clash that both will relish.
Manager Glen spoke after the match against Fylde.
I was extremely proud of the players, very few teams go away at Fylde and win, let alone by such a margin. We were outstanding. However, as good as the win was it’s just 3 points.
It’s at times like this you have to stay grounded and be humble, because football has a way of crashing you back down to earth if you are not at your best every week. This weekedn we will have our toughest test yet, we will need to find another level if we are to beat Wolves.
Although the West Midlands side will be favourites, they have shown that they can be beaten. Burnley putting three goals in the Wolves net proves that although top of the league, they are not unbeatable.
A tough match for the Terriers, yet nothing can be taken for granted. Another off day for Wolves, and Town Women could find themselves as the second side to defeat the league leaders this weekend.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
For the home team, Amber Hughes is a definate danger. The Striker is Wolves top scorer and sits currently on 22 goals for the season. Hughes is impressive and seems to score almost every match. Hughes is going to be tricky to keep under control, but Town Women will need to try.
Anna Morphet is a defensive threat for the opposition, set pieces are what Morphet loves. Against Sheffield, Wolves scored five goals – the first was from a Morphet corner. The defender can also net the ball herself, so there are goal threats everywhere.
For the Terriers, Brittany Sanderson is the top goal scorer. The midfielder scored a brace against West Brom last weekend, adding to her goals for the season. On 18 goals Sanderson will want to add more and extend her tally.
Town Women goalkeeper Bethan Davies has impressed this season. Davies has made crucial saves to keep the Terriers in matches. Davies is vital for Town Women and keeping clean sheets is always her aim.
