Development Squad Come Unstuck Against Brighouse
Huddersfield Town Women’s Development Squad fell to a 4-3 defeat to Brighouse Town Women’s Reserves at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium on Sunday.
After just two minutes, Town were awarded a penalty after Sian Gibril-Keating was brought down in the box. Tara Duce powered the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 inside 3 minutes.
The game started to get cagey, but Town had most of the chances come their way, but a goal-mouth scramble didn’t fully materialise and ended up as a foul and free-kick to Brighouse.
Then, 20 minutes in, Brighouse took a shot from outside of the box which sailed over keeper Laura Carter’s head and went into the back of the net to make it 1-1.
The game ebbed and flowed with both teams being very sloppy in midfield, unable to find the final pass. Eventually, Town got near the box and it took a shot from Alice Linsell into the top corner to make sure that Town were on the right side of the score-line once more.
And Town had another chance to go ahead before the half was up. Sian Gibril-Keating was one-on-one with the Brighouse keeper, but it ended with a save and Town led 2-1 at the break.
The second half didn’t inspire much from both teams. Macey Ellis, who was brought on at half-time, had the best chance in what was a scrappy opening – taking a shot at the far post, with the keeper pushing it over for a corner.
Town, however, did then score their third. Macey Ellis received the ball inside the box, the Brighouse keeper came rushing out and Ellis calmly passed the ball between her legs and into the back of the net.
Ten minutes later, the game began to turn when Brighouse scored their second. After a penalty was given after handball in the box and the penalty was slotted into the net, Brighouse regrouped and started to go again.
Town couldn’t keep the Brighouse pressure from their goalband soon Brighouse had another chance, but keeper Laura Carter made a spectacular save to keep Town in the lead.
However, Brighouse’s pressure and momentum soon paid off with a good finish from outside the box beating Laura Carter to level the scores at 3-3.
Then, 5 minutes from time, Brighouse scored the winner.
A free kick was whipped to the far post, met with a header, and Laura Carter couldn’t keep it out.
Town will have to regroup and recover from defeat and prepare to try and get back to winning ways against Middlesbrough next week.
