Huddersfield Town and Burnley play-out 0-0 draw under the Stafflex Arena floodlights.
- Goaless between both sides.
- Bethan Davies gets another clean sheet
- Town Women remain fifth place.
Town Women moved up to 42 points following a goalless draw to sixth place Burnley in the FAWNL. Despite having more of the ball throughout the match, the Lancashire vistors failed to trouble Bethan Davies in goal, likewise Huddersfield had some threatning attacks however all mostly ended up not troubling Lauren Bracewell.
The only talking point from the first half was a potential goal scored by the home team. A dangerous Kate Mallin corner was flicked on towards goal with the Burnley keeper punching the ball towards her own goal, however the referee didn’t reward the goal. On close inspection the ball didn’t cross the line therefore the home team won’t feel hard-done-by.
The second half saw both teams dominating either half with Burnley enjoying more possession and chances for the first 20 minutes of the half. However Town Women started to pile the pressure on to find their opener. Britt Sanderson saw her shot bounce off the woodwork before another, well-saved chance in the final ten minutes. However, both sides never created any clear-cut chances, opting to share the points.
Manager Glen Preston, saw a missed opportunity:
“It was a fast paced, intense game between two teams who were absolutely throwing everything at it.”
“But in the dressing room we’ve got a group of dejected players because they felt they did enough to win the game. We easily created the 4-5 biggest chances of the game, Burnley play some great football around the box but at a price of leaving the back door open in transition, we did everything we could to exploit that but just couldn’t score.”
The fast-pace fixture list continues this Sunday 17th April when the Terriers host Loughborough Lightning at the Stafflex Arena, 2pm KO for fans wanting to attend this fixture.
