MATCH REPORT: Huddersfield Town Devs 5-0 Hull City

Report by Joe Edge.

Huddersfield Town’s Development Team produced a brilliant result on Sunday pushing them above Chorley to top of the table on goal different.

Five different scorers and another all-round great team performance from the Terriers who pushed themselves higher up the table.

The opening 15 was a competitive and fast paced start from both sides. The first big opportunity fell to the visitors who won a freekick on the edge off the box. It was struck well but saved superbly by Laura Carter who tipped the shot onto the crossbar denying Hull of the early lead.

However, Town reacted well from this and just minutes later it was the Terriers who broke the deadlock on the 20-minute mark through a goal from Macy Ellis. Ellis was played through on goal and she slotted it perfectly into the bottom right corner giving Town the lead.

Shortly after Falone Sumaili made a great run into the box and she was pulled down by the Hull defender, giving the chance for the Terriers to double their lead from the spot. Captain Kayley Hird stepped up and calmly scored the penalty giving Town a 2-0 lead at the break.

Into the second half and Town came out fast and eager to increase the lead. Just five minutes into the second half, Sharone Buckle made it 3-0. A great corner made it all the way to the back post with Buckle on hand to tap it in.

Town continued with intense pressure and just minutes later Cassidy Clift increased the lead further. Another perfectly delivered corner failed to be cleared by Hull. Eventually, the ball bounced in the six-yard box and Clift was the fasted to react to tap it in.

The final goal was scored by Falone Sumnaili who was played in on goal and a cool finish sealed the victory for Town capping of a great performance from Huddersfield Town Development Team.

At full-time manager Alan Eastwood said: “It was a slow start for us again today, but once we had the football down on the floor and started playing, I thought we played really well.

“We have scored from a lot of corners all season, we have been working on them especially in the last few weeks, we’re not the tallest team in the world but when we have set piece players like Alice, Tara and Lois who can put them in those spots, all you have to do is be there.”

Town’s Development Team are back in action just 48 hours later when they travel to Leeds United. The game will be held at Crofton Community Centre and fans are welcome to come along and support Town.
