MATCH REPORT: Huddersfield Town Devs vs Durham Cestria Reserves

Town go top of the league with a well fought win over Durham on Sunday at the Stafflex Arena.

After not playing for two weeks since their impressive win over Bradford City, Town looked to carry on the momentum against Durham as they vied to go above Middlesbrough in the table.

The team certainly started the game with this goal in sight as after only three minutes Macy Ellis pounced on a Durham team that was still finding their feet and slotted past the goalkeeper to make it one-nil to the home side.

Town continued the good start as not long after Sian Gibrill-Keating ran through on goal, but this time the Durham goalkeeper saved the effort.

Town then managed to make it to half time despite some good pressure from Durham and then started the second as they did the first, with Tara Duce volleying the ball home from close range to give Town a two goal advantage after 47 minutes.

As full time approached, and Durham fought to try and get back into the game the Terriers did find themselves having to battle more and Laura Carter had to make several good saves to keep the visitors out.

Town did have the chance to make it three, but Falone Sumaili saw her shot saved by the Durham ‘keeper after she raced past the defenders.

At full time the Town players were clearly happy with the win, despite the cold conditions, as they went top of the league.

Manager Alan Eastwood, clearly happy with the win, said: “it wasn’t the prettiest win as Durham were an organised, physical team but we did the dirty work very well today. It’s a different sort of win and it shows how far we’ve come.

“We weren’t allowed to play our usual style but we adapted fantastically and they way we put our bodies on the line was a joy to watch.

“Todays result has gone now and we shift our focus to Boro next week. We’ll prep well as always and hopefully we’ll be jeered up for the game come Sunday.”

Town travel to second in the table Middlesborough on Sunday.
