STEVE WINTERBURN REJOINS HTWFC

Huddersfield Town Women are delighted to announce Steve Winterburn has returned to the club as a Development Team Coach.

After the earlier announcement of Mo Mouelhi joining our first team as a coach and Alan Eastwood taking over as Development Team manager, we are thrilled that Winterburn will be rejoining the Terriers to join Eastwood with our Devs.

With the Devs winning their first league game of the season, Winterburn joins a team who are well prepared for the upcoming season.

On his arrival, Winterburn said:

“After my announcement over two years ago, bringing 25 years of coaching to an end, I’m pleased and excited to say that “It’s great to be back!”

“The break was much needed for me at the time as all coaches, managers and people involved in football know just how addictive and time consuming the sport is and sometimes we have to remind ourselves that family and personal life is just as important to us all.

“After receiving an unexpected text message from an old friend at Town last month it kick-started my love of coaching again and after a few sleepless nights and a lot of decision making, weighing up the pros and cons, I made the next step of going to meet some of the players and chat face to face with coaches and committee members. Three weeks later I’m now helping out with the development team and have made a commitment to help run the squad with Manager Alan Eastwood.

“When I was last at Town, my coaching role started with the devs before moving on to the first team and u14s before leaving to take back the reins at Bradford City where after only a short stay I made the decision to hang my boots up.

“The best part of returning to coach the Devs is that the majority of the squad are a mixture of the Devs that I was involved with before and what ‘were’ the u14’s!  Not forgetting replenishing the much enjoyable partnership with big Al.

“So familiar and friendly faces definitely helped make my mind up and what helps is they already know me and know what I expect from them at training/match days and so far things are looking good. I hope I can continue to work on their pathway to bigger and better things over time but the immediate plans are to settle into the new season.”

Alan Eastwood, Devs Manager, spoke on Winterburn’s arrival:

“Things seem to be coming together nicely and bringing in the highly experienced Steve Winterburn alongside me will only help us get better and better. We have all the right ingredients, we just need to cook up something special.”
