Town Women travel to Lancashire in a pre season friendly against Lancashire FA Women’s County League Premier hosts Fleetwood Town Wrens.
Town Women make the 70 mile trip to the West of the country to face Fleetwood in an exciting contest this Sunday afternoon. The pre-season fixture is a 2pm kick off at Rossall School with the meeting being the first for the team from West Yorkshire.
Fleetwood Town Wrens currently play in the County League within the Women’s football Pyramid in Lancashire. Previously Huddersfield played out a hard fought contest against Champions League outfit Celtic. A goal from Kate Mallin set up a great contest in the second period of the game. Manager Jordan Wimpenny looks ahead to the fixture with further pre season games on the roster against Blackburn, Liverpool and Sheffield United to come before the season commences.
After a whole season in charge Wimpenny will look to assess his chances ahead of Sunday alongside the competitive nature of the opposition, with this game his second opportunity to analyse the group from the conclusion of last season ahead of the forthcoming season.
“Pre season is a great opportunity to prepare the team by playing a variety of sides. Last week was a good challenge for our side and no doubt Fleetwood will be wanting to make an impact on the game. A side we haven’t played which could give us problems to solve. Another important 90 minutes under our belt and one we are looking forward too.”
Ahead of this one, team spirits are high after the highly rated performance on Scotland territory with the players showing a great attitude on and off the pitch.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes to get the side prepared in the best way we can. These long trips to Brighton last season and Celtic this campaign are always vital for any side whether that’s the staff or players it gives you a chance to come together as a group and something we have shown over last season and something we want to carry on into this season.”
