Huddersfield Town u10’s 5 – 1 Sheffield Wednesday u10’s
Under 10’s got off to the perfect start with their first League Cup group game with a home win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Town started with most of the possession but Sheffield Wednesday managed to get an early chance that was well collected by Harriet Oldfield in goal.
It wasn’t until the 7thminute before Town went 1-0 up with the opposition giving away a free kick just outside their own area. Holly Wilkinson stepped up to the ball and guided a cross straight across goal and into the back of the net.
Sheffield Wednesday got a few chances after getting the ball over our players to their striker, one attempt was saved by Oldfield, however on their second attempt they managed to sneak a goal into the corner. 1-1.
With 23 minutes played, Town applied the pressure forcing the opposition to lose the ball which in turn gave Izzy Cleverly a tap in to make it 2-1. Within a matter of a minute Town applied the pressure again and Cleverly got another strike on goal only to see it hit the post, but following up on the far side was Alysia Singh who struck the ball into the back of their net to make it 3-1.
The second half got off to an even start with both teams getting equal amounts of the ball. Sheffield Wednesday managed a few shots on target but goalie Wilkinson stood her ground and had good hands to scupper their chances.
It wasn’t until 44 minutes into the game that Town got the opportunity to make it 4-1. Holly clears it out from her goal line to find Singh allowing time to control the ball and find Oldfield who then gets a nice pass to Esmay Clarke giving her the chance to find space to turn and shoot on goal.
A minute later Town got another opportunity on goal when Oldfield found herself shooting but her first attempt was saved, however the ball came back out and Oldfield took the time to look and place the ball into the corner of the net for what was the final goal to make it a 5-1 win.
