U12’s LEAGUE CUP – Town come out on top to reach Cup Final.

8th February 2020

Our U12’s have reached the cup final as they beat a hard battling Handsworth 1-0.

The game started fairly even with limited chances at both ends. Handsworth had a couple of corners in quick succession but it was town who took the lead, they cleared the Handsworth corner and broke away on the counter attack with Lucia Morrison driving down the left and playing a through ball to Evie Franks who cut inside the defender and drove the ball past the keeper.

Half time 1-0.

In the 2nd half town were happy to defend well and play on the counter attack and all of the girls did this very well.

Ruby Haigh and Maisie Haskell were once again excellent in defence and with the midfield working tirelessly Handsworth very rarely threatened the town goal. In fact it was town who threatened the most using the pace of Evie Franks on the counter and she was through on goal a couple of times but couldn’t add to her tally.

With 5 minutes to go Handsworth almost found an equaliser from a corner but the town girls put there bodies on the line and blocked any shots aimed at the goal.

Full time 1-0.

Credit to Handsworth for never giving in and what a superb match which in its self was fit for a final.

Player of the match went to Grace Morrison who worked tirelessly in midfield and really helped to prevent Handsworth attacks.

Next Saturday: Under 12’s are away to Charnock Ridgeway, 11am KO
