Huddersfield Town 6-1 Doncaster Belles
It was a first versus second semi-final at Storthes Hall as the leaders welcomed Doncaster Belles on Saturday morning.
In an opening period where Town played their best football of the season, Laura Hulme’s opener from the excellent Millie Rumney’s throw-in was their only reward after 10 minutes.
So it was a shock when the visitors levelled after 19 minutes after hesitancy from the Town defence following a long ball over the top.
The goal rocked the hosts momentarily but gradually the Town girl’s composure returned and at the interval they regrouped and went on the offensive from the restart with Hulme powering home from Gaby Pearson’s corner.
Two minutes later player of the match Amy Almond played in Alyssa Valenti who advanced into the box to extend Town’s lead with a powerful strike at the near post.
As the hosts turned the screw with some scintillating football, the game was firmly in their control when striker Isobella Kington headed home at the near post from Hulme’s cross in the 51st minute.
Town were in full flow now and ten minutes later the relentless Hulme had her second assist when the pacy and intelligent Mia Harris smashed home her pass from six yards.
Harris completed the scoring on 68 minutes when she and the exciting Lois Mattock played an exquisite one-two for Town’s sixth.
In a high-calibre performance from the Town team, a special mention to midfielder Lucy Grice who set the tone from the first whistle with some crunching tackles and unstoppable energy.
